Let's journey back in time to Darbar Festival 2022 when we were graced by the exceptional talents of Purbayan Chatterjee's Solo Performance.
Raag Bilaskhani Todi is said to be created by Miya Tansen's son Bilas Khan and is named after him. This Raag belongs to Bhairavi Thaat. Raag Bhairavi and Raag Komal-Rishabh Asawari are nearest to Bilaskhani Todi.
This is a very melodious but difficult Raag to sing and requires much Riyaaz. This Raag can be expanded in all the three octaves. The atmosphere created by this Raag is deep and soothing.
This Raag is also referred to as 'Miya Malhar' since it was a wonderful creation by Sangeet Samrat Miya Tansen. The combinations of the melody can really ape the vagaries of nature in the thunder of clouds and the rain torrents falling from sky onto the earth. The Shuddha Nishad of Madra Saptak makes the Raag very impressive and sweet rendering requires bold presentation of the combinations to enthral the audience with the Raag mood.
