Churning The Ocean | Ustad Bahauddin Dagar | Film
1h 6m
Ustad Bahauddin Dagar is considered the Jedi (selfless) maestro of Indian classical music. This film stitches together a series of Dagar’s interviews and performances filmed over a decade. Digging through the Darbar archive footage Nick Morchang, a creative film maker edits these into an insightful film. Dagar belongs to one of the oldest Indian classical music dynasties and traces his family back 20 generations to Nayak Haridas Dagar of the 16th century. Today, Dagar is one of a handful of musicians keeping alive the been or rudra veena, India’s oldest classical instrument associated with Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning and the arts. Dagar explains his insights into the raga music tradition where classical boundaries can be transcended through discipline, creativity and spiritual practice.
