Rutuja Lad is the featured artist on Episode 6 of the IndianOil Now Hear Us Series. Rutuja was initiated into music at the tender age of 5 by her parents Tanuja Lad and Umesh Lad. She was blessed to have received the opportunity to learn with one of the legendary vocalists from the Jaipur Atrauli tradition, Gannyogini Vidushi Dhondutai Kulkarni for almost 12-13 years until Dhondutai's demise in 2014. She is currently being trained by Vidushi Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande who is one of the leading Khayal vocalists of our country.
In this episode Rutuja opens her performance with two traditional bandishes in Raag Mali Gaura, "Saras Bhed Jug Saras" in Vilambit Teentaal and "Tu Har Haar Rab Samaan" in Drut Teentaal. This is followed by a bada khayal in Raag Kedar, "Paayo Paayo More Raam Naam Dhan" in Vilambit Rupak and a chhota khayal "Dharale Dhyaan Tyaj Gumaan" in Drut Teentaal. Rutuja concludes her performance with Raag Des where she sings "Sakhi Mohan Mohani Daar" (Thumkhayal) in Vilambit Rupak Taal followed by a Tarana in Drut Teentaal. Rutuja is accompanied by her long time musical colleagues Siddharth Padiyar on tabla and Dnyaneshwar Uttam Sonawane on harmonium. The concert was recorded and filmed at the beautiful and historic Malabari Hall located in the Seva Sadan Society Campus in Gamdevi, Mumbai. Seva Sadan Society houses a residential school for marginalised girls and was co-founded in 1908 by Shri Behramji Malabari and Diwan Dayaram Gidumal.
