Arshad Khan | Raag Bhairavi
Experience the rare, deeply evocative sound of the esraj—a traditional Indian bowed string instrument known for its rich, resonant sympathetic strings. Recorded live on 11 November 2017 at the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler's Wells Theatre during the Darbar Festival, this release showcases a masterful solo performance by Arshad Khan.
Born into an illustrious musical lineage as the son of the legendary Ustad Allauddin Khan, Arshad Khan has gained worldwide recognition for his exceptional skill and emotive playing. In this featured performance, he explores the profound depths of Raag Bhairavi.
Belonging to its own parent scale (Bhairavi Thaat) and traditionally associated with the peaceful energies of the morning, Raag Bhairavi is a deeply spiritual melodic framework. Arshad Khan brilliantly captures its introspection and emotional beauty, seamlessly weaving intricate bowing techniques with the hauntingly vocal quality unique to the esraj.
He is accompanied on stage by the stellar tabla maestro Shahbaz Hussain, providing a perfectly balanced rhythmic foundation to this captivating performance.
Please note: This release features the Raag Bhairavi performance only and is not the full concert.
