Raag Yaman, Thaat Kalyan, Samay Evening
Musicians:
- Shakir Khan (sitar)
- Surdarshan Singh (tabla)
Immerse yourself in the spellbinding rhythms and melodies of the Darbar Music of India series, featuring the sitar maestro Shakir Khan and the tabla virtuoso Surdarshan Chana.
Raag Yaman is one of the most revered and iconic ragas in Indian classical music, known for its serene and meditative mood. Belonging to the Kalyan Thaat, Yaman is traditionally performed during the evening, evoking a sense of tranquility and devotion. With its rich melodic structure, the raga uses all seven notes (Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni) in both ascending and descending sequences, but with a special emphasis on the Re (Rishabh) and Ni (Nishad). Its ability to stir deep emotions of longing and devotion makes it a favorite among both vocalists and instrumentalists.
